Scavenger HUNT

Every month, our church hosts some sort of ladies event.  Usually I am the host of these events, but this year I decided to get others involved and allow the women to host the events.  LAst month we had a Tea Party which was a huge success!  This month we had our first ever scavenger hunt!  It really was such a good time!  One thing I love about not being the host of these events is that I get to participate!

The Complainer!

Have you ever met some one that no matter how good the situation was had the special talent of finding fault? You know those "the glass is half empty" type of people?  Always a complaint, never content  and satisfied?

I have to admit, I can have a tendency to be one of those people.  I mean, you want to be happy, but there is always something?  So I challenged myself to a "Complain free Month.  Instead of complaining about all the wrong in my world, I will rejoice in the right!  I actually began this challenge a couple days ago.  And although I haven't passed with flying colors.... yet, it has helped me to re-channel my mind and thoughts to the things that are well with the world.

Here are some common complaints we make that I have been challenging myself not to say or think:

1) The Weather: this is one of the easiest complaints, too hot, too cold, but the weather functions in a way that is beneficial to the earth.  The rain, the snow, the sun, the wind all play key roles in the environment.

2)"I'm tired":Yikes this one is tough, but I have been doing much better.  Sometimes I think we make ourselves tired by all the talk about it.  We wake up after an 8 hour sleep and the first thing out of our mouth and hour later is "I'm tired".  No we are crazy! :)

3)Occupation: It's so easy to complain about your job, but I tell you if you lost it those complaints would be a thing of the past and you would be wishing, hoping and praying you could get it back.  If it's making you money, be thankful!  There are many who are unemployed.

4)People: People love to complain about people, don't they?  If our kids don't clean their room, we are complaining, if hubby forgot the milk, we complain.  We have become a very intolerant generation.  Trade your complaints of others to grace.  Imagine if instead of God extending grace to you, He aired all His complaints about you?  YIKES, that would be terrible.  So lets go easy on one another :)

So my dear readers, do join me on a Complaint Free Month! :)

Encourage yourself!

These smiles certainly brighten any day! :)
This lovely saturday morning, I was chatting with a dear friend.  She was having a bit of a rough time and I began to encourage her.  The oddest thing happened when I left that phone conversation...I was encouraged. I felt more in love with Jesus than I did prior getting on the phone with her.  And that carried me through the entire day! Often times when we are going through rough times we begin to look inwardly.  We tend to enjoy "licking our wounds".  Who would have thought the simple act of helping another would birth such a response in my own heart?

So my little advice for today...call someone and encourage them, it may really end up helping you! :)

Love ya all

Have a great weekend!

A living Eulogy?

I am fortunate enough to have not attended many funerals.  But I have been to a few.  Although I have  been to my share of weddings, and one thing weddings and funerals have in common is speeches!

People stand up and speak on behalf of the person of honor.  Statements like "I have never met such a kind person" or " they always made me laugh"  are usually among statements given in speeches and eulogies.   It got me pondering.... what am I known for?

At the end of my days, or if I renewed my vows and speeches were given, what would people say about me?  I am sure I could come up with an idea of things people would say about me.  Correct me if I am wrong.  Things like "she loved to blog", "great cook " "her house was always clean", "a good mother, wife""awesome musician" blah blah blah.

And while all those things are commendable and I am honoured people would think such kind things of me, I want more.  When you think of someone what is the first thought that comes to mind?  Some we have positive thoughts, other negative.  But see, I am not interested in being known for my amazing culinary skills or my ability to plan a ladies church event.  I want to be known for the Man who is living inside of me.  I want to be known before anything else as a devoted follower of Christ.  A disciple.  A strong christian women! Christ-like! A prayer warrior!

This thought so bothered me today as I thought about people I know who pride themselves first on their talents and abilities and not the one who gave them those "talents & abilities".  It bothered me even more that I too have done this.

At the end of our days what do you want to be known for FIRST??   What are you known for now?  How can you change that?
