A living Eulogy?

I am fortunate enough to have not attended many funerals.  But I have been to a few.  Although I have  been to my share of weddings, and one thing weddings and funerals have in common is speeches!

People stand up and speak on behalf of the person of honor.  Statements like "I have never met such a kind person" or " they always made me laugh"  are usually among statements given in speeches and eulogies.   It got me pondering.... what am I known for?

At the end of my days, or if I renewed my vows and speeches were given, what would people say about me?  I am sure I could come up with an idea of things people would say about me.  Correct me if I am wrong.  Things like "she loved to blog", "great cook " "her house was always clean", "a good mother, wife""awesome musician" blah blah blah.

And while all those things are commendable and I am honoured people would think such kind things of me, I want more.  When you think of someone what is the first thought that comes to mind?  Some we have positive thoughts, other negative.  But see, I am not interested in being known for my amazing culinary skills or my ability to plan a ladies church event.  I want to be known for the Man who is living inside of me.  I want to be known before anything else as a devoted follower of Christ.  A disciple.  A strong christian women! Christ-like! A prayer warrior!

This thought so bothered me today as I thought about people I know who pride themselves first on their talents and abilities and not the one who gave them those "talents & abilities".  It bothered me even more that I too have done this.

At the end of our days what do you want to be known for FIRST??   What are you known for now?  How can you change that?

  1. Great post! It is definitely healthy to stop and consider our living testimonies. If we want to be remembered for a particular attribute, we need to gear ourselves towards living that way now :)
Thanks for the food for thought!
