Courting Again

The Future Rodney's 2007
Have you ever noticed shortly after a bride walks down the isle her beloved prince stops courting her? You know the drill, the flowers stop, love notes vanish and carefully thought out dates are a thing of the past.  If your one of my 'single' readers sorry if I burst your bubble!  But life happens, you cant live in "la la" land forever!  Or can you?
Well perhaps you can't live in "la la land forever" ( I mean if you eat enough lobster its gonna taste like soap right?"  You can however visit "la la land" frequently!  Why all the talk about "la la land"?
Cause I went out on a date last night baby!  Haha!  And to introduce you to the Rodneys, in our lives, dates are not a weekly event!  Yes, we spend time together, we have breakfast together each morning as a family, we chat every night, we go for family dinners almost every week, or for ice cream.  But a real "date date". One where the purpose is to win over the heart of your spouse once again, like you did when you were courting.  Not a regular occurrence!

But last night, my dear beloved took me out! He told me" I am going to take you out tomorrow night, we're going get a babysitter and its just me and you!" Living in the "fishbowl" existance really doesn't allow for to many "alone" moments.  There is always a phone call, a text, a fellowship, a meeting, a basketball game (haha) or something that makes that party of two a party of three or more!  And I don't mind it most of the time, but I have my moments.

So I got all dressed up, and he took me to Yorkdale to shop around. Then we went to my favorite restaurant and sat in a nice little booth and got to chat!  Just him and I!  It was like we had flashed back 6 years to when we first started courting! Its easy to forget how much you actually "like each other"  Love is usually a given in marriage but 'like', well that's debatable!  Afterwards, we went by the church, (what can I say we are the pastors family-we practically live there) We set up our new drum equipment and Gary and I jammed together on the drums. I sang, he played, we laughed hysterically as he imitated drummers, and attempted fills only professionals could do! I was literally on the ground laughing. My stomach hurt!

Funny Story:  When it was time to bless the food my beloved  said " Lord we bless this time of food and fellowship in Jesus name Amen"  We both burst out laughing and I was like "fellowship?  what kind of date is this?" lol

Let me just clarify , I have never been an overly mushy gushy girl, I don't like to make things look picture perfect or seem as something they are not.  But that date was a picture perfect date!  At this point in my marriage I couldn't me more happy, and I don't think you have to have the mushy gushies all the time.  But every so often its good to visit "la la land".  You don't wanna go there too often though, cause like the lobster if you do it  often enough it just may begin to taste like soap! LOL  Here are some pics from our courtship & engagement!

  2. Too cute V!!! I am so glad you had a special date night with your sweetheart :)
A marriage will stay aflame as long as both partners continue to ignite the fire.
I am so grateful for the gift of marriage and the blessings God rains on a couple when they put Him first above all.
    Happy Anniversary!

  3. awwww....I am so happy to hear about your date!
That is part of the marriage journey. It wouldn't be as special if it happened all the time, however I think that you should make a habit of this.....at least once every 6 months....lol

Marriage is so unique. Its best not to assume what it should be, or have others define it for you.... (disney)...LOL

Celebrate who you are as a couple. So happy for you guys!!! Was a really nice entry!

  6. That's really cute, I can definitely relate moving from "courtship/engagement" to the married life! We'll see what it brings, but as of now, I'm definitely enjoying being "swept off my feet"! (While it lasts!)
