Consistently Consistent

Every year on my birthday,  I ask God for a birthday present!  I know it sounds a bit ridiculous.  But I heard it in a sermon once and thought...why not?? Lol

I don't go asking for a new wardrobe, or anything material. I often ask for something pertaining to my character or relationship with Him.  Patience, grace, kindness, hospitality...that kind of thing.

This year my goal and request for my birthday was to be 'Consistently Consistent' .
I find this is an area many Christians struggle in.

We lack consistency in most things, but mainly prayer, Bible reading, devotions.  Over my 13 years of salvation, I can't say I have always been ''consistently consistent' .

With Gods helps and some new practices my birthday wish has come true:

1- My Bible App- While I loved turning the pages of my actual Bible, sadly I don't hold onto my Bible as much as I do my phone in a day . I make a habit of reading my Bible almost every time I open my phone. Even if just for a few verses!  We use our phones for so many other things, imagine if we used it for spiritual things?

2- Accountability- This sort of goes with my bible app,  now You Version Bible apps track your steaks. If you are going to be a consistent Christian, you are going to need to be accountable to someone/something.   At first the streaks were a huge incentive to get the habits going!

3- A Change of Heart- Recently my daughter asked me what my favorite thing to do is?  I quickly answered 'reading my Bible'. If you would have asked me a year ago, that certainly would not have been my top answer. Somewhere along the way the Lord changed my heart. Helped me to hunger and thirst after righteousness and his word.  There are days that all I want to do is just sit down and read, pray and spend time with God.  Nothing else will cut it for me!

I share this because I haven't always been consistently consistent in my faith!  I definitely know we all have our down seasons, but something in me has definitely switched.  Perhaps the Lord granted my birthday wish after all!

*Disclaimer:It's not my birthday!  That was in February ,but I wanted to let some months pass before I posted this :)

    1. Absolutely! There wee tkmes, I hate to admit it but spending time with God could feel more like a chore, something to be checked off the list. In reality God doesn't even want that kind of relationship with us!
